Gothy.....if u can afford the difference, get the new E8600 (3.33Ghz). Its newer technology and same BUS speed (1333Mhz)

Excellent choice on the video card

Personally wouldn't bother with the velociraptor drive. While a 10K drive may sound fast the larger capacity higher data density 7200RPM drives give the velociraptors a run for their money at a better price point.
The best 7200 rpm drives for price/performance at the moment seem to be the 640Gb dual platter ones, and you can get 3 of those with change for the price of a 300Gb velociraptor.
So I personally prefer extra capacity over a few millisecs improvement in seek times.

Videocard>I would try and chase up a 1Gb HD 4870 if you are using resolutions above 1680x1050.
Games like Crysis seem to use more than 512Mb for textures and the like when set to high details at these resolutions.
Or if you really want to lash out an HD 4870 X2 2Gb

Thats some serious video card.

Case > Nice choice, although I am starting to prefer the cases with the bottom mounted PSUs as they seem to have a better layout. Mate has a Silverstone TJ09. Big expensive bugger, but damn it is nice, and for Joel, it fits all his water cooling internally.
Just make sure whatever case you get can fit the vid card, those HD 4870s are fairly long.

PSU> very good choice

Mobo> P45 FTW, supposed to be a dam good chipset, although I would prefer a chipset with less PCI-express 16x slots and more PCI-express 1x slots. Supposedly PCI-express 1x cards should work in a 16x slot but I have seen the odd compatibility problem when doing this.

CPU> either yours or alf's options are fine, but may be worth looking at the quad cores, especially if you do any video editing.

Memory> Should be fine although I would probably go for something a bit cheaper.

DVDRW. Not sure which manufacturer does the ASUS drive. Some Asus drives are Pioneer based, which are the best burners available IMO. So I would plump for a PIO DVR-216BK and make sure it has the latest firmware on it.

That's my preferences, but what you have listed should be fairly kickarse, just please use Vista 64bit to make proper use of all that fancy new hardware, especially with 4Gb ram.

Performance is about the same and they tend to be quieter, cooler and cheaper.

nice chip, no complaints there....(could be higher, but then it REALLY starts to cost ya)
M/B, I'm in no position to comment on them
nice ram
haven't had an ATI card since the 9800 pro (brilliant card)
i like the velociraptor. pricey, especially for ONLY 300 GB, but fast none the less. (perhaps look at getting a large HDD as well, 640 GB or something of the like.)
case seems stable enough, BUT I'm with Ali in saying that you should find one with a bottom mounted psu bay, better airflow and case layout. something like the antec P180 / 182. or the one i want. LIAN LI PC-A70B
i've got the same dvd burner, pretty good, no complaints there
LOVE the psu, especially the modular connectors
