Did you say Norton could only be banished by full format? Didn't you mean banished by replacement of all hardware (including keyboard, mouse and monitor), excorcism by an anointed catholic priest blessed by the pope himself and sterilization by flame!!!! That program has tenticles that are so far reaching they follow you to the toilet!!

For a straight antivirus you could try Avast. I have been using for a while and find it pretty good, so long as you turn off the Avast sounds. Even has an option to disable it's update popup notification when in a game.

For Anti Virus you cant go past NOD32 !!!! very small footprint and never interferes with anything !!!!! Done even have to turn it off when installing anything !
