yes folks time to risk screwing up the PC again as SP3 for XP is now available on windows update.
First up make damn sure you have a backup before applying as it could save your posterior.
For me it borked windows in such a way that I was left staring at a black screen, although the monitor was still receiving a signal. Luckily you can uninstall SP3 in safe mode, but I opted for an image restore with Acronis Trueimage to make sure no remnants of it where left over.
Will have to investigate further when I have time.
Cheers.

Interesting that it broke your games Nappy.
Tried a test install on a domain machine today and again it broke XP. Freeze on reboot, then after a hard reset, BSODS.
A look in safe mode event viewer throws up a load of Symantec services errors.
So may be something to do with that.
Unfortunately we are stuck with Symantec corp as it is what we are required to run on the ed dept network.

Been running SP3 for over a week now and no problems. The only negative stuff I've heard was about compatibility with certain Norton products. Who uses that crap anyway? lol

have picked up a fresh "xp sp3" disk & as a clean install - no problems.
Install on an older machine & it gives all sorts of crc errors.
NEW program - NEW machine only seems the best advice.
